Faculty General FAQs

  • No. CUNYfirst can be accessed from anywhere on/off campus by using a computer with internet connection. You can use any computer in one of the computer labs on campus, any computer available in your department or your home computer.

  • CUNYfirst training is based on a model called “Train the Trainer.” Professionals from throughout CUNY learn how processes work and train individuals how to do their work. If you have a job that requires you to have everyday access to the system, you will be trained in a classroom setting by your peers in accordance to assigned roles based on the work you do.

  • This term describes the activity that matches current employees to the roles that are in the CUNYfirst product. For example, if a person at BCC is in charge of benefits, the specific CUNYfirst HR roles related to benefits will be assigned to them. The department chairperson will make sure that a faculty member will have access to the processes that allow him/her to do his/her job.

  • Those roles are determined by managers and supervisors who are translating your current work into CUNYfirst functions. You will receive training to perform the exact tasks you need to do your job—no more, no less. If it is determined you need training on functions outside your role, your managers and supervisors will make sure you get it.

  • Yes. With CUNYfirst, access to all functions, with one sign-on, is in one integrated system. For example, if you are a faculty chairperson, you will only need to sign-on once and you will have access to:

    • “Student” processes needed to manage student records
    • “Human Resources” processes since you are someone who manages people or hires new employees
    • “Finance” processes in order to seek reimbursement for expenses purchased for departmental/office materials
  • If their work is such that they need access to CUNYfirst processes, then yes. If a RF employee manages CUNY or campus people, then they will need access to the managerial functions in HR. Otherwise, they will be part of a group of employees that have a tangential relationship to CUNYfirst, as they do now.

  • Every person in the CUNYfirst system has one record. That means you will be identified in the system for all that you are to CUNY. This allows for your information to follow you wherever you go and should speed up new employee procedures if you move to a new job at another campus.
