CUNY EDGE (Educate Develop Graduate Empower)

What are the specific eligibility requirements?

CUNY EDGE is a partnership between the City of New York Human Resources Administration (HRA) and The City University of New York (CUNY). To qualify for CUNY EDGE, a student must be a matriculated CUNY undergraduate student who receives cash assistance from HRA.

A college degree is the foundation of economic security and self-sufficiency. Countless studies show that a degree is one of the most important credentials in the job market. CUNY EDGE, formerly known as the COPE program, provides student with a range of services, benefits and support, so that they succeed in college and their careers.

CUNY EDGE envisions a world in which all people have access to the educational opportunities and support they need to realize academic success, a sustainable career and a brighter future. We are committed to contributing to this vision.

CUNY EDGE's mission is to help CUNY students who are receiving public assistance achieve academic excellence, graduate on time and find employment.

  • CUNY EDGE provides structured, effective programming to help students complete their degree in a timely manner.
  • The crux of CUNY EDGE’s work is ongoing individualized academic, personal and career planning advisement.
  • We promote a culture of academic excellence and offer tutoring services and limited tuition support for intersession and summer classes (for those who qualify).
  • We connect students to internship, HRA Work Study and job opportunities.
  • Advisers and other staff members lead a comprehensive personal and professional development seminar series to assist students with study skills-building, problem-solving, career development and self-advocacy.
  • CUNY EDGE collaborates with college offices and programs including CUNY Start, ASAP, advising offices, career services, HRA Work Study sites and Single Stop to get students the help they need.
