Assessment
Faculty, staff and administration all contribute to achieving BCC's institutional goals by helping to establish campus-wide assessment efforts in programs and courses, by continuing to focus on teaching/learning improvement, and by committing to a pervasive, transparent culture of assessment. As the Association of American Colleges and Universities' publication Liberal Education Outcomes makes clear, establishing outcomes helps achieve the "learning that every student needs."
Student performance in designated courses and programs are assessed according to a rubric whose criteria are designed according to the stated outcomes. After the assessment is complete, the department sends its report to the Assessment Manager or Faculty Assessment Team. The Team reviews the report using its own specified rubric (or scorecard) to make sure that pertinent information concerning measurable outcomes, assessment results, data interpretation, and possible actions towards improving the course are noted. The report is then sent back to the department, which then confers among its faculty to decide if changes are needed in the next iteration of the course or program.
