TIME: Kalief Browder Story, screening at BCC: Panel Discussion.
The panel discussion was led by Dr. Jillian Hess, BCC faculty member and Kalief’s former professor, the TIME filmmakers and members of the Browder family. The Kalief Browder Memorial Scholarship fund honors the BCC student whose three-year Rikers Island imprisonment without trial at age 16 — two of them in solitary confinement — raised a national clamor for criminal justice reform. The scholarship will be awarded to full-time BCC students who, like Kalief, are working hard to transform their lives after incarceration. Support to the fund will help to permanently endow the scholarship and ensure that those following in Kalief’s footsteps have the support they need for years to come.
