A Message from Dr. Thomas A. Isekenegbe, President of Bronx Community College
On the first day of classes this academic year, it was my pleasure to stand at the gates of BCC and welcome you all — those returning for another season of discovery and achievement and those joining our community of excellence for the first time. Now the 2017-18 academic year at Bronx Community College is drawing to close. Yet even in these final days, wherever I go on campus I can feel the unique energy of minds at work and hearts committed to the great adventure of education.
Much of what we teach and learn today was inconceivable in our early years — as was the rich diversity of our student body, drawn from 104 countries and speaking 35 languages. But some things haven’t changed at all: the spirit of creativity and discovery that guides Bronx Community College, our belief in the possibility of greatness in every individual, regardless of race, gender, age, national origin or life experiences and our goal to give all who desire it the chance to come to our campus with a dream and leave with a diploma. As The City University of New York’s first Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) college, along with our current expansion of that initiative, we are poised to make this dream a reality for many more students.
At BCC, we are committed to academic excellence, and we value respect, integrity, engagement and empowerment. You provide the desire to learn, we provide all the resources and support we can to ensure that you are able to successfully complete your degree requirements.
As we finish the 61st year of Bronx Community College, we rededicate ourselves to that passionate devotion to learning that brought us through the years that preceded it.
Thomas A. Isekenegbe, Ph.D.
