The CUNY Virtual Desktop lets you access software remotely. Current applications available include SPSS, SAS, Matlab, Mathematica and Maplesoft.  No longer are you restricted by the hours and availability of your campus labs. The CUNY Virtual Desktop gives you access anytime and anywhere to costly applications you may need for your classes.

Currently, the CUNY Virtual Desktop is available to students and faculty at all CUNY schools that are on CUNYfirst. Up to 3000 students can use the CUNY Virtual Desktop at the same time. Additional schools, software and services will became available through the CUNY Virtual Desktop in the future.

To maximize the availability of the CUNY Virtual Desktop, your session is limited to 8 hours. Inactivity for 20 minutes or more will end your CUNY Virtual Desktop session, and any unsaved data will be lost.

How to Download my Complimentary Copy of Microsoft Office

As part of the CUNY enterprise agreement with Microsoft, every CUNY student with a CUNY Office 365 mail account is entitled to a full copy of the Microsoft Office suite of applications.  The latest version of the Microsoft Office suite — including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and more — will be available to you for offline and online use. All you need are your campus credentials to log in and download up to 5 copies on your PCs, Macs, and other mobile devices, including Windows tablets and iPads.  This suite of applications is available to all students from campuses participating in the Office 365 offering.

To download a complimentary copy of Microsoft Office, have your CUNY email credentials ready and complete the following steps:

From Your Computer:

1. Sign in to your email account at https://login.microsoftonline.com.
2. Click on the "Settings" icon in the top right corner.
3. Select "Office 365 settings" in the drop-down menu.
4. Click on "Software" on the settings page.
5. Select your language preference (below the install button).
6. Click on Install Now.

From Your Mobile Device:

1. Open your mobile device app store (ex. iTunes App Store, Google Play Store).
2. Search and select your desired Office application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote).
3. Click "Download" to install the application.
4. Once installed, launch the application.
5. Go to your Account Settings and sign in using your CUNY email credentials.
