Get Started: Freshman

Create a CUNY Portal Account

You must register in order to submit your application online. The CUNY Portal also allows you to check the status of your admission and financial aid applications.

How to Apply:

Freshman Applicant: This means you have graduated from high school or received a GED, and have never enrolled in another college or university. Applicants who earned college credit in high school are still freshman applicants.

Bronx Community College recommends downloading the CUNY Freshman Application Worksheet Acrobat Reader is required to view this document. to complete the application process.

International Students: Students educated outside the United States should refer to the Students Educated Abroad section for additional information and requirements.

Dates and Deadlines:

There are advantages to applying early. Review the CUNY Deadlines for freshman and transfer admission.

Apply Online:

All freshman applicants must apply for admission directly to the City University of New York (CUNY). When applying don't forget to indicate Bronx Community College as your first choice. ⇒ Apply Now

Application Fee:

A non-refundable application fee of $65 is required.


Required Documents:

  • Official high school transcript and a copy of high school diploma
    An official paper transcript must be sent directly to CUNY/UAPC in a sealed, school-issued envelope (see address listed). Transcripts in a language other than English are accepted. (Review the CUNY Guidelines for Supporting Documents.)
  • OR General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
    Scores with a minimum score of 2250 (formerly 225) are required.

Reminder:

Follow through. Complete your application by submitting all supporting document to CUNY. When mailing your completed documents, try to mail them all together.

SAT or ACT Tests:

If you have already taken the SAT and/or ACT tests, based on your scores you may be exempt from having to take the CUNY assessment tests Exemption Requirements

Admission Decisions:

Letters will go out 6 to 8 weeks after your application is complete (after the February 1 or September 15 priority deadlines). You can check the status of your submitted application at your CUNY portal account. Check your Application Status

Exemptions from CUNY Skills Assessment Tests:

  • Students who have already earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college in the United States may be exempt from testing. Students whose degree is from a non-English speaking country should take the English as a Second Language (ESL) placement test.
  • Students who have taken the exam previously may wish to accept the results of their prior exam.

Please note:

  • Students have the option of retesting to improve his/her scores if the initial exam was taken more than two years earlier.

Entering students are exempt from tests when they qualify:

Reading and Writing

  • SAT verbal score 480 or above
  • ACT score 20 or above on the verbal section
  • English Language Regents exam 75
  • A grade of C or better in freshman composition or a higher level English course

Math

  • SAT I math score 500 or above
  • ACT math score 20 or above
  • 80 or above on any one Regents exam (Integrated Algebra, Geometry or Algebra 2 & Trigonometry) and successful completion of Algebra 2 & Trigonometry or a higher-level course”
  • A grade of C or better in 3-credit or more mathematics course
  • Proof must be submitted to the Admission’s Office

Please note:

  • Students who are exempt from the math skills test are still required to take that test for placement into the appropriate math courses.
